Description
Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)
The Requirements Traceability (RTM) is a matrix that links software requirements from their origin to their deliverables. It facilitates the traceability of requirements to test cases, design documents and deliverables. This allows requirements to be accounted for (traced) within the development lifecycle. The RTM will benefit your requirements gathering process by helping to ensure that each requirement adds business value by linking it to the business and project objectives.
How is it used?
The RTM is used to describe how each requirement meets business objectives and links the business and project objectives to requirements and project deliverables. It provides a way to track requirements throughout the project lifecycle. This helps ensure that the approved requirements are delivered, as well as providing a structure for managing changes to the product scope.
